OUR STORY

The Renaissance School of Dance (RSD) is a small business that’s been running for 16 years in Papatoetoe. It is run by Marguerite Howlett, who from a young age loved to dance!

‘Margs’ was never good at sports – but one primary school teacher said “Marguerite is a great side-line cheerleader for the team!”

Dancing to Marguerite was never about being the best (she didn’t even like to practice for her exams). She danced for the pure joy of dancing, spending her school holidays choreographing Michael Jackson routines and imagining what they would look like performed in a stadium full of people – with lighting, effects the whole sha-bang!

Dancing was her thing, her happy place. Even in dance exams, she would ‘wow’ the examiner away with her smile and sparkly performance – because that’s what mattered to her more than the correct technique!

This is what makes RSD special – creating an environment where it’s more than just dancing – it’s a safe, family environment to feel special, a place to belong.

Where we are proud of who we are and what we can achieve, regardless of whether that’s something little or big! We love to dance with heart and grow in all aspects of our lives. This is a place where everyone is respected for who they are.

Over the years, the dance studio has grown from 20 students using the local cricket clubrooms, to winning Young Business Person of the Year, developing a well-funded schools program and taking students on international dance adventures!

The Renaissance School of Dance is still changing lives one dance class at a time through Marguerite’s passion for sharing, inspiring and motivating the next generation of awesome human beings!
